Trash or treasure

My sister and I have different views on what a treasure is or trash.I was at her shop yesterday and was trying to be helpful of clearing those flat surfaces.Everyone has them a table top ,dresser, end table and so on. Well there was a pile of what I call doodles on muslin .They are practice pieces .The front and back are both muslin with batting in between.I asked what she wanted to do with them .This is the difference ,it was throw them away. Oh no ! They came home with me .My son said Mom instead of spending all that money on fabric and make the grand kids quilts use those. He went  on that all of them drag them around .I am going to give my self a week to do something with the pieces .then take pictures and post them here.

New Year 2015

Goals  Maybe goals are not always the best to do so instead I am going to use suggestion for 2015 One year I had a goal to read less. My family complained that I read too much. This is a concept that I can't grasp. To me you can never read too much . My daughter gave me a Kindle for Christmas which I have already read my first book of the new year. I also have learned to enjoy audio books. It did take me a bit to get used to this method .Then my next concern is getting my grand kids  to enjoy reading more. I had a brilliant idea ! Kindle unlimited So I signed up for the first free month then decided that I would continue this. I told all my kids about this and got the grand kids on board. Each household had a device to read from . Sometimes they pick a book or other times I send them one.The blog will be my way of keeping track of things this year.

Long Time

I have been spending a few days with my Mom.We where suppose to go away to The Upstairs Inn but my someday son in law poked his eye with needle nose pliers. He is on the mend and very lucky to still be able to see.My sister also got sick. She is also better.I seem to get more done when I  am with other sewers so I packed my projects and off to Mom's I went.So far I have started a new knitting project its a cowl.It is coming along nicely and I learned how to do yarn overs.Actually I watch more knitting podcast than I knit but I am learning. The other thing Mom and I have been making is fabric owls. She has made a couple before this and everyone likes them.I have 2 sewed and 2 cutout. It is such a good use of stash. The more patterns and colors the cuter they look. When I get a minute I get inspired from all the different projects on Pinterest .My daughter and I have been checking out stuff to make for Christmas. We try to make most of what we give or buy second hand.Sometimes just re purposing a item will make a neat gift.I am going to try and post what I have been up to again. On Sunday we start the first class of The Jo Mortons Quilt club at my other sister's quilt shop. They will be made out of reproduction fabrics. Since the last time I posted I became a grandmother again. Her name is Temperance and she is about 6 weeks old. Now I have 6  which is hard to believe. I will have to think of a catchy closing to my post.Good night !

count down.

Nothing is wrapped yet.I am still trying to finish up what projects I can. No  matter what I do from year to year I find this the most stressful  time of the year.Yet we all manage to  make it. Here is something funny. I bought this fabric The Gastlies  in 2 different colors to make for to different kids. Still it hasn't been cut and the reason is it is so cute I can't make up my mind.Well I told my kids that they won't  be getting  that project till I can figure out what to do.Even my Mom was asked for ideas. We think maybe a apron for my daughter.  Then maybe pillows for my son and girlfriend.I will let you know.
The socks are still a work in progress. My Mom is ahead of me in progress .Then the other day she says I don't think I will do socks again.Wouldn't you know I got her sock yarn for Christmas. We had the family party yesterday so she has them but I had told her already. We just laughed.
What I am most excited  about is that in January we get to go back to The Upstairs Inn to stay.If you ever get to go away to relax and sew you know what I mean.I always pack way to much but that's OK.It nice to be able to spend time with my Mom and sister. That 's all for tonight.
